🥚 Pea Dreams and Rabbit Nightmares
Last year, I finally grew peas. And then the rabbits came.
They ate the bottoms off every single one like it was their personal salad bar. I was devastated. This year, I’m determined to protect the peas at all costs.
Do I have a solid plan? Kinda. Do I have supplies? Sorta. Do I have determination and zip ties? Oh, absolutely.

🧱 How to Build a Pea Cage (Chaos Garden Style)
The plan:
- Stick posts in each corner.
- Wrap them in fencing.
- Make a “gate thingy” just like the chicken run.
I think this will protect the peas.
It might not be pretty. It might not win awards. But if it keeps the bunnies out and lets me finally grow enough peas to fill a pot, it’s a success.
Bonus elements:
- A helpful-but-heavy post pounder (aka “the thing that terrifies me”)
- A baby spider cameo
- Me, realizing my arms are toast from hauling wood chips and rock all week
🌿 Function Over Fancy
I’ve learned this much: It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to work.
This cage? It’s short, it’s scrappy, and it’s held together with hope and zip ties. But it’s mine. And I really, really, really want peas this year.
Sometimes gardening is about beauty. Sometimes it’s about revenge against rabbits.
